Lip Speakers
Lip Speakers
Often, where there are multiple participants at a meeting, it can be difficult for a lip reader to follow the flow of conversation. The provision of a lip speaker gives the lip reader a single person to focus on making it easier for them to follow what is being said.
A lip speaker is a hearing person who has been professionally trained to lip speak. They clearly reproduce the shapes, natural rhythm and stress the speaker uses and use facial expressions, gestures and finger spelling in order to accurately convey the speaker’s message to a lip reader. The lip speaker can also slow the flow of speech whilst keeping its natural rhythm to make it easier to follow and when requested can use their voice, allowing the lip reader to benefit from any residual hearing.
